Abstract

The research aims to identify and classify the forest trees and shrubs used in the afforestation of Idlib´s Parks and to assess their adaptation to the environmental conditions of the city, especially the climatic ones. The total number of observed species reached (73), organized into (39) families, of which (21) are native, and (52) are exotic.

These types are divided into three groups: The first group includes types adapted to the environmental conditions of the city, and they can be expanded without any obstacle. The second group includes adapted species, but they show some sensitivity to extreme cold periods, as they can be continued to be cultivated, but with discretion. As for the third group, it includes species that are affected by extreme cold and frost, and these types are preferred not to be used. The research also included proposing a set of types of local environmental equivalents as well as those that could be introduced from abroad, with the aim of promoting afforestation within the city of Idlib
