Abstract

 The theory of Islamic literature has been concerned with the function of literature since its inception in the middle of the twentieth century, and many researches have dealt with the function of literature in the theory of Islamic literature, but it has not tracked the critics’ opinions in a detailed way through the stages of the theory. 

T he problem of this research lies in the following question: What is the function of literature in the theory of Islamic literature, and what is the development that took place in it during the stages of the theory? The research attempted to present the concept of the function of literature and to define the main functions of Islamic literature, they are: the social function, the aesthetic function, the subjective function, as well as to the other effects that it creates .
