Abstract

The enmity between the Byzantine Empire and the Norman Emirate of Antioch used to disappear at times and then appear at other times. The fighting fronts between them were in Cilicia in the north of Antioch and the city of Latakia in the south. The conflict extended until it included Durazo in the Balkan Peninsula. The Byzantine Empire considered Antioch a dependent emirate, and directed its armies to regain control on it several times, while the Normans did the to avoid this. They did not admit the Byzantine Empire's sovereignty except in the case of the presence of its armies in Antioch.
