Abstract

The Norman-Armenian conflict over Antioch led to the acquisition of the attention of the Islamic and Christian worlds alike. Aleppo supported the Normans in Antioch, and foiled the Armenians’ efforts to seize Antioch. This led to conflicts and wars with the Armenians. However, the Ismaili assassination of Raymond, son of Bohemond IV, Prince of Antioch, and then Bohemond IV's attack on the Ismaili fortresses, led to the collapse of the alliance between the Normans and Aleppo, which allowed the Armenians to seize Antioch.
