With the increasing need to provide sustainable housing to accommodate the large numbers of displaced people in northwestern Syria, there has been a continued encroachment on the limited resources and environment in the region, along with the adoption of unsustainable construction practices. This has highlighted the importance of sustainable building materials that are rooted in the region's history and culturally suitable for local customs and traditions. Building with clay, for example, is a cultural heritage that has been passed down through generations in the area. Hence, the significance of this paper lies in emphasizing the role of clay construction in providing sustainable housing for the displaced. The paper has examined previous studies, literature, local and international experiences in clay construction, and has put forth recommendations highlighting the importance of clay as a solution to the problem of providing sustainable housing for the displaced.
