Principles of Environmental Sustainability and the Necessity of Applying Them in Contemporary Residential Buildings Within New Urban Expansions in Idlib City and Northwestern Syria

Abstract

Environmental sustainability and sustainable architecture concepts provide a set of environmental, social and economic advantages and benefits at the construction level, and they also affect supporting environmental protection trends and preserving natural resources for future generations. These concepts provide us with a set of principles that can effectively contribute to achieving integration between residential buildings and the surrounding environment. Global studies and experiences in this field have begun to appear increasingly, as housing is an integrated unit within integrated and sustainable urban communities. The importance of the study is due to the necessity of applying these principles to contemporary residential buildings within new urban expansions in the city of Idlib and northwestern Syria with the aim of finding sustainable modern housing and achieving the concept of a sustainable urban community.
