Abstract

Due to the importance of sustainability in residential architecture, it is always given great emphasis in terms of developing the concepts and foundations of this style of architecture to meet the development and increasing needs of the population. There is also a great need to achieve sustainability in contemporary housing by improving the level of architectural and urban studies of population centers. Therefore, it is recommended to set a set of design determinants for residential architecture to achieve harmony between it and its climatic and social environment and in line with the economic status of the population. The environment and climate of the city of Aleppo impose on architects to set, study and adopt a set of general and sustainable design determinants for residential buildings in a way that is compatible with its climatic environment to achieve comfort for the residents and inhabitants within it. To study these determinants, a theoretical study was adopted within this research based on setting and analyzing a set of design determinants appropriate for the city of Aleppo in addition to a set of recommendations related to the shape and orientation of the building, functional distribution, design of ceilings and openings and selection of appropriate building materials.
